Allies of newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump have urged three senior diplomats, including former U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh Marcia Bernicat, to resign from their positions.

This was reported by Reuters on Friday.

Marcia Bernicat, who served as the U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh between 2014 and 2018, is one of the diplomats facing the recommendation to step down.

Two insiders familiar with the situation have suggested that this request hints at the possibility of major changes coming to U.S. diplomacy soon, as the new administration gears up to make its mark.

In addition to Bernicat, the other diplomats being asked to leave their posts are Derek Hogan and Alaina Teplitz.

Typically, when a new president takes office, political appointees voluntarily step aside to make room for new leadership.

However, it‍‍`s not as common for career diplomats at the State Department to be asked to resign.

The three diplomats in question have worked across both Democratic and Republican administrations, making their suggested resignation even more noteworthy.

President Trump, who is set to be inaugurated for his second term on January 20, had already signaled during his campaign that he would aim to remove officials he felt weren‍‍`t loyal to him, as part of his mission to end what he called the "deep state."

A spokesperson for Trump‍‍`s transition team commented,

"It’s only natural for the transition team to seek out officials who share President Trump‍‍`s vision of putting our country and the hardworking men and women of America first."

The U.S. State Department has refrained from issuing any official statement about the matter, and none of the diplomats in question have commented on their potential resignations.

This shift in U.S. diplomacy comes at a critical time, and all eyes are now on how these resignations might influence the future direction of U.S. foreign policy under Trump‍‍`s leadership.
